Hiyama Eisuke is an unsuccessful actor. He moved to Tokyo from Osaka with the aim of becoming a star, but he only got minor roles and earned very little, living from hand to mouth. He was the owner of a completely useless "gift": a troublesome special ability to "hear" the voices of spirits who died an untimely death. One night, he hears the voice of a woman who was supposed to have committed suicide. She says, "I was murdered!"
